Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is unique lipoprotein that has been discovered as an independent risk factor for developing heart disease. This is a genetic marker that is present in ~20% of the world's population. Have you had high cholesterol since forever? Then you should get tested for this marker to see if it is due to hereditary reasons.
